Our story

Caring with Clarity has grown out of personal experience.  For many years, Christine, our founder, struggled with wanting to support people but also feeling unsure about what could be done and frightened of making matters worse.  Eventually she realised that this was partly a lack of knowledge and some unhelpful learned beliefs and partly a mixture of fears around not being able to cope or being enough.

The loss of a dear friend to suicide in 2008 led her to face this and to learn more, in time becoming a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) instructor.  From 2014-2019 she co-delivered training with local mental health charities on a voluntary basis, before requalifying in 2025 and setting up Caring with Clarity.

As well as seeing the areas in which she needed to gain confidence, Christine also experienced a number of life events that showed her she was not alone in struggling with how to show up for the people in her life.  Many people struggle with this when faced with pain, loss or other difficulties that don't have simple answers and either walk away, try to minimise and brush it off or overstep boundaries.

A serious illness in 2020 left Christine with ongoing mobility issues and a long recovery.  This was made more difficult owing to burnout from not respecting her own needs or limitations in the years leading up to her collapse.  These were years spent holding down a job, whilst fighting a serious illness and caring for terminally ill parents.  This has shown her the importance of prioritising self as well as others, setting realistic boundaries and accepting that doing your best is enough.   Perfection is not a reasonable standard and it's OK to do what you can when you can.

These experiences convinced her that there is a lot we can do to help each other and to build up our communities as long as we respect our own limitations whilst doing so.  Some people are naturally really good at this, and that is a beautiful thing.  However, many of us don't have the tools to do this in a way which honours personal agency, maintains and respects boundaries and promotes physical and psychological safety for ourselves and others.  Caring with clarity has developed as a way to address this.

About us

What we offer

Caring with Clarity offers MHFA training which is accredited by MHFA England.  Our Director, Christine, is an experienced PhD scientific researcher and values evidence-based practices to improving human health and wellbeing.  She has an MA in Education and an MSc in Psychology and Mental Health, as well as lived experience of recovery from anxiety, PTSD and life-threatening illness.

The aim of Caring with Clarity is to provide access to MHFA training for the general public and also to set up a community where people can explore positive psychology and personal growth together in a safe space.  Over the next few months, we will be setting up a programme around positive psychology and its applicability in developing resilience and improving wellbeing. This directly connects with increasing helping skills by tackling personal fears and confidence limitations.
